We Three Kings
When I heard the story of the King who was advocating for his people's language to be developed and even to help translate the Bible... I thought to myself that if possible, I would visit this King and the Bible translation project that he and his wife were so deeply involved in.
Recently in Nigeria this dream became a reality as we paid a visit to the palace of King Timothy (please forgive me not having his full name and title handy at the moment).
There was much pageantry and formality as the King's spokesperson did most of the talking but the King also personally welcomed us and gave a speech.
During our time at the palace, three groups of school children came to perform for the King... After a full bow to the King, the first group recited a Bible passage from memory, the second group said the Lords prayer in their language and the last group counted in their language from 1 to 20. The children's leader mentioned the children could count up to 1000 but we were spared that performance.
After the formalities, we were then invited to enjoy the wonderful hospitality of the Kings kitchen and a special treat of fresh palm wine.
As the title of this blog post hints... This day was very full for us. In addition to visiting King Timothy, we visited two other Kings... but that story will have to wait to be told another day.
