Summer days in Ghana with our friend Lydia
Summer is officially over.....August was a restoratively paced time for us of reconnecting with our children, nesting in our condo and beginning to work through the backlog of tasks in the office. But now September is here.....and although "Back to School" no longer affects John and I directly, we are definitely feeling caught up in the whirl of activity that seems to commence at this time of year. It's all a familiar part of our yearly transition from leading a Discovery trip to life in S. California. The more we go back and forth between Ghana and the U.S., the less we feel "Culture shock".....but we definitely encounter "Culture Stress" as we seek to transition from one rhythm of life to another.
Here are some ways we invite you to help support us in prayer:
We would appreciate your prayers for wisdom to discern what is truly most important for us to do each day (each hour even!)...who to say yes to, and what we need to say no to.....and the ability to let the rest go, with joy!
This is the time of year we focus on telling our story to existing and potential partners . Please pray that God will enable us and speak through us as we:
-Prepare our next prayer letter
-Plan how to best communicate our financial needs....and who to communicate those needs to.
-Plan a Partnership Development trip to Tucson in November.
-Seek wisdom & diplomacy as we communicate with friends and supporters who currently attend the church that is going to be ending our support soon.
For more DISCOVERY staff. We know you have been praying for this for a long time, and we appreciate your perseverance in this matter. Norm, our lone volunteer, moved to AZ this summer, and while he plans to help as much as he can from there, his presence in our office is sorely missed. John is having to turn down trip requests because there are only two of us, and now that we are going to need to devote more of our time to support raising, we are feeling the lack of staff even more! Recently two people from our church here in HB have been talking to us about the possibility of volunteering with us several hours a week.....which would be really wonderful!
For the 2007 DISCOVERY participants; that they will continue to process their summer experience and integrate it into their lives....that they will continue to seek God's guidance as to their next steps, and to respond in obedience.
Thanks so much for your prayers that are such a blessing to us! We couldn't do this without you...and them!
In His love;
Shevawn and John
