Ramsey Dec prayer letter

December 2007

This past spring, as we were preparing for our most recent DISCOVERY trip to Ghana, we were notified by the church that originally sent us out as one of their representatives in the task of Bible translation twenty four years ago that their relationship with us would soon be changing.  Because they want to become more involved in local missions in their city, and also because they have decided that recruiting Bible translators is not how they want to be investing their money that goes towards Bible translation, they have informed us that they will be discontinuing their monthly support of our ministry.  They assured us that this decision did not represent any lack of confidence of faith in our ministry, but was a decision based solely on their new plans regarding new missions and ministry direction.

What this means for us, bottom line, is that beginning in April of 2008; we will be losing $1500 each month in support.  Because you have been praying for us, we knew you would want to know what is happening so you can continue to join us in prayer as we look to God to continue to provide for our needs.  We have no idea how God is actually going to pull this of, but from previous experience, it’s likely that He is going to be speaking to a bunch of people and possibly some churches about becoming a part of our financial support.  Some of these new financial supporters will come from those of you who have already been receiving our prayer letters and supporting us in prayer; this will just be an additional way of continuing your partnership with us.  It is also likely that God will move some people/churches that we have not even met yet to become involved with us and Discovery; many of these new partners we will meet because those of you who already pray for us will introduce us to each other.

John and I are currently doing all that we can to meet with people and communicate our needs.  We have just come back from a trip to Tucson where we focused on doing that for two weeks; another trip is planned for February.  But we need your help too.  Since we’re asking you to join us in prayer, we are going to be sending short updates to you on a regular basis so you can easily see how your prayers are being answered.  We will also be enclosing envelopes periodically that you can use if you decide to participate with our ministry financially, or that you can share with others who might be interested.

As you can imagine, this is a challenging time for us.  But you, too, have had times when your faith was stretched, so you can relate to what we are feeling.  God is still God…..and He is good, all the time!

The task of Bible Translation is immense…..and the need for new Bible Translators is a constant in Wycliffe.  Faithful translators age and retire, yet there remain so many languages still without the Bible in their mother tongue.  That is why the Discovery short term missions trips we organize and lead are so important; they are a key means of recruiting the coming generation of Bible Translators.   We can’t do this without the partnership of many; we are thankful and blessed by your support.

Trusting in Him and still choosing joy;

John & Shevawn Ramsey
