behind the scenes in Discovery
Recently our Discovery colleague was writing to a Wycliffe staff person who is possibly interested in serving with us in Discovery... and we thought his brief description of us and our ministry environment was... pretty apt... no surprises really, most of you who know us, could probably have written it as well:-)
The questions were:
Can I get your input about what it's like to work with your team? What type of work do you need help with most? What kind of person would be a good fit?
the answer was... well, you can see for yourself:
>I have found Discovery to be a great place to work. John and Shevawn are progressive and passionate about equipping the next generation of young people to get involved in missions. John is very laid back and tends to not focus on details, while Shevawn is much more type A. The office is in Fountain valley and I come in on Thursday mornings. The rest of the time I work from home. I used to come in much more often, but now that I "know the job" I do not need that kind of supervision. Discovery is under recruitment which is under HR which is not super fun (lots of bureaucracy), but John does a good job of keeping it to a minimum. Our team is all the (Wycliffe) NextGen people, but Discovery is Just John, Shevawn and I. Though there are some other folks coming on... The nature of the work depends on what you decide to do. However, coordinators mostly arrange the logistics of a trip, prepare team leaders (or themselves if they lead the trip), process applicants, and manage follow up. If you are interested let's schedule a time to visit the office.

By the way, we are now accepting applications for our 2013 cross-cultural internships. If you or someone you know might be interested, check out the info here:
