February update with prayer requests

February has been and continues to be a very interesting month for John & I. We arrived back in our office Monday morning after a 2 week absence to find documents informing us that our office complex has gone into receivership! Since we have a lease, we don’t think this will affect us too much, but it was a bit of a surprise to us! There have been other surprises as well in the past few weeks, including but not limited to:

Discovery Staff- The gentleman we were expecting to join us full time after raising his support is not going to be doing so after all. Not a fun surprise for any of us! Prayers are appreciated as we continue to seek others to join us as Discovery staff.

African Discovery trip – John has been looking high and low for another location to take a team to this summer since it was decided that the Central African Republic was too risky at present to pursue, and he has not been able to get an invitation anywhere. We are running out of time; if something does not turn up in the next few weeks we will have to abandon plans to take Discoverers to Africa in 2013. (Trips are planned for other countries, but this could be the first time in 14 years Discovery has not sent a team to this continent). John desires wisdom as we seek to follow God’s will in this.

Wait… hold the presses! Discovery just received an invitation from a Wycliffe organization in West Africa! please pray as we work on details and for more applicants to make this a viable team!

1st Ever Sign Language Discovery Trip? - A colleague wrote us this month, wondering if we might being exploring together the possibility of such a trip in 2014. So exciting!

Discovery On-Line Application Process- Each glitch that is found in our new on-line application process is a surprise; we would appreciate your prayers that as issues continue to be resolved here, the problems encountered will not prevent or discourage people from being able to successfully apply to Discovery.

Family – Our son Jordan came from South Korea for a visit, bringing with him a young lady he wanted us to meet. We knew they had been seeing each other for a while, so learning that they had recently become engaged was not totally unexpected…. but it still felt surprising in some ways! Plans are still being made, but it looks like we will officially welcome Youngju into our family before the year ends. Please pray for Jordan and Youngju as they prepare to join together as one in marriage.

We are so thankful that the many things that surprise us do not surprise God…and we are also thankful for your partnership in prayer with us!
