Celebrating in Benin

Benin celebrates 3 public holidays in August which means Discovery gets to skip the office for the day and Discover other things.

On 1st August we celebrated Independence day.  We stopped for breakfast on the way to the big festivities at Etwal Rouge where all branches of the police and military paraded by the president and other dignitaries.  The street food in Benin is quite special.  The fried pate a choux we ate will rival any beignet you can buy anywhere... and the nescafe was just what Danielle was looking for:-)

8th August is Eid al-Fitr, a public holiday celebrating the end of Ramadan.   You can read a bit more about this feast here:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/06/eid-al-fitr-2013_n_3708856.html?ir=Religion

15th August is the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. I'm not yet sure if this will be a work day or not, but I did see it on our calendar, and we are ready to Discover new holiday traditions, possibly just time off work to get a new hair style!
