A week in Ghana

John has had a full and very enjoyable week in Ghana; here's a bit of what he's experienced so far:

He arrived in Accra (the capital city of Ghana) on Friday evening and then next day he flew to Tamale.  Our dean friend Daniel Dzokotoe picked him up from the airport and took him to his lovely home to stay with his family.

On Sunday John went to Jisonaayili Baptist Church (his first time in their new building).

Afterwards he ate lunch with Pastor Moses and his family: here's a picture of his wife (my dear friend Comfort) and her granddaughter who was born after we were last there.  (There is a really fun video of John playing with Louisa Nasara, on our Facebook wall and if I could figure out how to attach it here I surely would!)   After that he went to greet and have dinner with our friend Agnes.

On Monday John spent the morning at the office of the Ghana Institute of Linguistics Literacy and Bible Translation meeting with different department heads and discussing with them the possibilities of having Discover interns come individually for several months at a time instead of the teams that we use to bring there for 8 weeks.  This was a very profitable time for all concerned.

Tuesday and Wednesday he visited many people in addition to cleaning out the Discovery trunks we had stored in Ghana and deciding who to give what to.  Here are some (but not all) of the friends he has seen in person; he is also enjoying receiving many phone calls.

Johnson Asare whom we met soon after our initial arrival in Ghana.  Here he is showing John the new hotel
that is under construction at his conference centre.

Patricia and Elizabeth, Discover alumni from our 2005 trip.

Our son Joshua, his wife Alisa and Zoe (we were in Ghana for Joshua and
Alisa's wedding but this was Johns first time to meet our granddaughter)
Wednesday afternoon John moved into the home of Johnson and Lydia Asare for his last couple of days in Tamale; tomorrow he flies back to Accra in the afternoon.  So today is his final day in Tamale...and also the first day of Ramadan.  After being introduced to Ramadan and spending many of them tin Tamale, it seems a fitting ending.

Once John has arrived in Accra, there will be more friends and family to see as well as the big Discover alumni gathering on Sunday afternoon.  Monday he plans to take the bus to Cotonou then rest on Tuesday before the leaders for the Benin trip meet together on Wednesday.  Meanwhile in Benin this past week, Orientation was completed and Christoph and Matthew traveled to a translation project in Dassa on Saturday.

Thanks so much for your prayers.
