An Unexpected Start to the New Year

It’s a question we hear every now and then:

“Where are you currently in regards to your monthly budget needs set by Wycliffe?” When a friend asked us this several weeks ago, we were delighted to respond: “Right where we ought to be!” But, as John often says, it’s a tricky question for us to answer because things can change quickly…and sure enough, a week later we learned that one of our major financial partners is going to be redirecting their giving elsewhere and just like that, we are now looking at a significant shortfall each month.
This is nothing new to us; during the 34 years we’ve served with Wycliffe Bible Translators we’ve experienced many such income fluctuations. You have most likely experienced unexpected income shortages throughout your life as well: you know what it's like to feel those moments of panic before you remind yourself that God's got this. 2017 was an amazing year for us; we began it with commitments of financial partnership from 68 individuals/families and 2 churches that exceeded our ministry budget needs; 2018 is starting out differently though as our current partnership levels look to be right around 95% of our budget needs.

Wycliffe requires each of its members to develop financial partnerships with individuals and churches to fund its tax-exempt purpose and to meet their full ministry budgets. Our individualized budget reflects the amount we need to fund John's ministry of developing/monitoring Bible translation projects in Nigeria and Shevawn’s of preparing and debriefing interns who serve Wycliffe entities throughout the world.

If you are currently one of our financial and prayer partners, we want to thank you so much for the sacrifices you make on behalf of the Bible translation work we are involved in. We also want to express our thankfulness to each of you who are prayer partners, as prayer is so vital for our work. Perhaps you have thought about becoming involved financially as well before, but were not in a place where you were ready to do so. We would like to invite you to consider joining us now in this journey of faith, trusting in God’s provision both for you and for us, as together we participate in the life changing work of Bible translation.
