Bible Translation Status
This post is for those who like Bible translation statistics!
This graphic represents the remaining translation needs by continent.
In the year 2000 there were 366 complete Bible translations available.
Then, just 18 years later, there were 677. During this same time the number of complete New Testament translations went from 928 to 1550. That was a 67% increase in just 18 years.
This is an even more remarkable figure when you consider that it took many decades of prior effort to get to 928. Recent progress is nothing short of astounding.
Current published Scripture totals:
Bibles 717 and New Testaments 1,582
For those (like me) with a special interest in Nigeria, here's how we're doing there as of September 2020
Number of living indigenous Nigerian languages: 507*
Scripture available in Nigerian languages:
- Bibles - 38
- New Testaments - 68
- Portions - 62
- Number of active translation projects in Nigerian languages - 151
*One result of language survey in Nigeria last year was the recognition of 7 new languages. Which points out an important fact that all these statistics are subject to change.
