They're on their way!
John has just left for the airport with a full van of what is left of our team at this point, so I have come up to our room, poured myself a coke (aahhh!!!) and thought I would write an update before I begin cleaning up the debris scattered all over our flat. I have to say, it is so nice to not be leaving at the same time as the rest of the team; usually the last couple days of debrief are stressful and exhausting as we prepare for our own departure as well as leading our team. This year, we have been able to fully focus on interacting with our participants (and getting enough sleep each night) until the very end! Well.....kind of the end. Roma and Katya will return with John (their check-in time is still four hours away) and Sunday evening Catherine, the last member of our team this year, will come down to Accra for a debriefing time with us before she flies out next Wednesday. At which point Ghana DISCOVERY 2006 will be officially over.
Last night we hosted our annual Alumni dinner here at the Guest House, and it was a great success. Except for the team of 2004, each year since 2000 (when we began to have Ghanaian participants on our teams) had two or more alumni in attendance. The evening was a great opportunity for alumni to share their experiences and to see friends they hadn't seen in some time. We also took the opportunity to challenge them with several different ways that they can continue to be involved in supporting the work of GILLBT, through a new short-term missions experience Ghana will begin next year, by committing to pray for a bible less people group, and to contribute funds for certain literacy projects. It was exciting to see how ready and willing they were to take act on these challenges that we presented to them.
So, we are so encouraged by so many things. Thanks so much for your partnership with us in prayer....and please continue to pray for us. For sufficient rest and recuperation before Catherine arrives..... for John as he is working on lining up Discovery trips for 2007...and for wisdom for Shevawn, who has about three months of things she would like to get done in the next three weeks! Muchas gracias!
In His love;
Shevawn
