Ghana's Democracy makes history (again)
We are thankful for peace and continued stability in Ghana after the surprising and sad news we received this week. We post this information to keep our interested friends informed and to let you know that while history is being made in Ghana, the country remains calm and at peace. Please pray for the Ghanaian people as they mourn the loss of President Mills. John Evans Atta Mills died suddenly at a military hospital Tuesday afternoon a few hours after becoming ill, Chief of Staff John Henry Martey Newman said in a statement. He was 68.
Ghanaian officials swore in a new president Tuesday, hours after the death of the West African nation's leader. In a ceremony broadcast on state television, John Dramani Mahama -- formerly Ghana's vice president -- became the country's new president and ordered that flags be flown at half-staff for a week
We were in downtown Tamale the other morning and witnessed flags being lowered to half-staff at Barclays Bank. Many businesses open, however some were closed and many people had stayed at home. We saw a few taxis which were draped with red flags to express their mourning.
Our Discoverers traveled on 25th and 26th from their ministry project locations back to Tamale (everyone arrived tired but safely) We have started our debrief on the 27th. Thanks for your prayers for all these things!
