Wonder how this happened or how it works? It almost didn't happen. When John first presented healthcare as an activity of a Bible translation project. One reviewer questioned how this could be included... but we persevered and explained that hundreds of people per community would be offered free treatment for malaria, screened for diabetes & hypertension and treated for other minor ailments. All this while literacy staff promote and teach mother tongue literacy during the event. The outcomes are quite amazing: The Bible translation, language development and literacy deepen meaningful contact and relationships while providing a felt need to the community. This is just one aspect of holistic Bible translation ministry which is being used in this context. Other types of holistic ministry might be added to other projects depending on the needs of the specific community.
