Azusa in Accra

Well, it looks like we will not be updating our blog again until Tamale, but I will record my thoughts before they get away from me anyhow.  The home we are staying in here in Accra does not have a  telephone, and since our focus is on attending classes, it is not our priority to scout out an internet cafe at present.  Besides, John visited our good friend Pastor Johnson Asare at his Radach center the day before we left to use their internet connection, and it was such a good connection that he will probably wait and go there from now on when we are in Tamale.  It was not only the fastest we have found in Tamale to date, but he got the added bonus of working in Johnsons office, so they could converse a bit as they worked.

Anyhow, we had a very nice trip down to Accra in the air conditioned STC bus, although a bit longer that expected, as we ran into stop and go traffic outside of Nsawam, about an hour out of Accra.  But the seats were comfortable, I had my music on...it was not so very different than getting stuck in traffic in Southern California.  And because we weren't driving, we could just relax!   We are currently staying in the home of Johnson's brother, since it is not so far from the Bible League office where we are attending our classes.  We take two different taxis to get there; took us about 45 minutes today.  Not bad at all!  Both of our Professors are from Nigeria, teaching at APU in California; they are interesting lecturers and we anticipant learning much that will help us as we lead both in our DISCOVERY work and at our church as well.  Solomon is in Tamale should any of our team members need anything, so we are really feeling a bit free, even as we take our classes.  Before we left Tamale, I had several phone conversations with Heather (our participant who had malaria) and she was doing much better.  So thank you so much for your prayers for her.  And oh yes, the heat that had enveloped Tamale broke on Friday with not one but two rains!  Yeah!

Again, our plans have changed a bit.  Just before we left for Accra, we learned that Beauty, the lovely young lady who helped us lead DISCOVERY teams in 2002, 2003 & 2004, is getting married this coming Sunday in Accra!  So although we had planned to travel back to Tamale on Saturday, we will now travel back on Monday so that we can attend her wedding.  Then, another wedding awaits us in Tamale the following weekend; Daniel Dzokotoe.  You may remember that last year during our DISCOVERY trip we attended the funereal of his wife, Leticia.  This year we will be celebrating with him instead of mourning with him.  So weddings seem to be the personal sidebar to our trip this year!

So, that's  what's happening at present.  This Friday the majority of our teams will reach their halfway point in their project assignments; please continue to keep them in your prayers.

In His love;

Shevawn
